In November 2009, I moved from Downey, California to Park City, Utah. Why? I'm still trying to figure that one out. What I can tell you is that I'm starting to adapt to this outdoorsie lifestyle. I still think about moving back to California, though...
Working resorts is pretty fun. I've learned to set up skis. Before 2009, I've never touched a pair. Oh, and I'm skiing. Not very well, mind you, but when Winter hits, I'm out there at least once a week. Summer's a little different. I'm a ride operator. It gets old after a while, but I'm outdoors all day.
The bad thing about resort work is that most of the friends I've made go back "home". Nobody lives here. They just work so they can ski for free. I miss having friends that I can hang out with on a regular basis.
If you've been reading my Facebook status updates lately, you've noticed that I've been really pushing for somebody to come out and visit me. Since I've moved out here, I've been back home six times and I've only had two visitors come out this way. The last one was in 2010.
It would be great if someone could come out. Park City is a cool place. I'll take you hiking. We'll go to my favorite places to eat. I'll introduce you to Larry the Legend. Just come out! That's all I can say.
It's an hour in the air or 12 hours in the car. After Vegas, the trip gets pretty boring. When you hit the Arizona border, you're surrounded by awesome canyons. Then it's about five hours of nothing. That's the only downer.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings. All I can do is look forward to a visit. See you out here soon, because I probably won't be back in California 'til November or April at the latest.
Hey Chris, I just want to compliment you on your writing ability. Good job, seriously. I have read things written by folks with advanced college degrees that were so poorly written that it distracted from the important content. Your prose is a pleasure to read!
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy. That means a lot coming from you.
ReplyDeletePS All the advanced degree people in my family write prose that is wicked funny and smart and has depth that makes your brain feel well exercised......just FYI :-)
